Rob Doel
Vice President Land & Sales, principals
What do you do at McKee Homes and in what circumstances would I come to you for something?
VP of Land & Development McKee Homes. Broker/Owner of Manor Real Estate. President of Emerald New Homes. I have a pretty good handle on all points of this business from the start to the finish. As the longest tenured employee, I’m able to provide some of the historical background of our company, and our market. Anyone should feel free to come to me for anything. We try to have an open door policy at McKee Homes.
What behavior or personality trait do you most attribute your success to, and why?
Usually quick to make decisions, Martin always said “always make a decision whether it’s right or wrong”. I’m a big picture thinker, and try to see all aspects to see where we need to pivot. As perfectionists, we always need to strive for perfection in all departments, and on site, to achieve the desired customer outcomes.
How do you prefer to start your day?
Checking and answering emails, workout.
How do you prefer to end your day?
Wrap up late, go home and do chores.
What was your first job?
My first job was a waiter at the Driftwood Hotel immediately South of the DQ.
What energizes you at work?
Nothing is the same, everyday is different. New challenges, new product lines, or materials. Energy efficiency, and technical changes that improve our homes both in energy, and technology.
What’s a work-related accomplishment that you’re really proud of?
I’m really proud of how this company has grown. When Martin died in 2006 some people said we likely wouldn’t survive. We had many challenges in what was a very volatile year, while grieving our founders death. We pulled together, made plans, wrote out our Vision, and Mission statements, and re-focused our strengths into differing roles and departments. Not only did we survive, we thrived, and built a great company led by my wife Elaine. It’s very much a team effort, that relies on our staff, trades and suppliers, all working in harmony.
